Update

I haven't been blogging as often as I'd like, but thems exciting times!

I've been elbows deep in work the past week, and it's just the beginning of school. The Daily Sundial is keeping me busy. I wrote a teeth-gnashing piece on the passing of the NDAA and have been assigned the student government beat. However, I've also been given the privilege of having my own column on food issues in addition to submitting a healthy recipe a week for the Arts & Life section. I'm insanely occupied, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity to get some more published clips out there.

I'm also leaving tomorrow to cover Five and Diamond, a San Francisco brick and mortar shop for Auxiliary Magazine. I have a short deadline, so I'll be hiking up to the bay area and turning around the next day to hammer out the photos and copy. I'm also in talks with the editor about interviewing Lacuna Coil on their recent album release.

I'm also producing a documentary project over the course of the next few months. I'm going to follow Flip Cassidy, an LA artist and his involvement with East Jesus, the small artist space within Slab City, a desert community near the Mexico-California border. East Jesus is like nowhere I've been. So colorful and surreal. In the middle of nowhere, it's an oasis of culture.

There are also a few potential modeling gigs coming up, so stay tuned!

For This Mark I Will Remember

This weekend marked Chrix and I's second anniversary. We ditched the city and hung out in Julian. It's an adorable little mountain town East of San Diego. Famous for their apple pies (as there are orchards everywhere), horse drawn carriage rides, and the three blocks that contains the entire town- with only one stop sign. I still have photos that I want to upload, so the details will be in an entry to follow.

One of the souvenirs I walked away with from the experience was this tattoo,  "Nosce Teipsum;" a Socratic parable, thereafter adopted by Plato. It translates to "know thyself." There is some debate as to whether or not it was originally written in Latin or Greek. I got it done in a Typewriter font- as I Iove to write and am enamored with typewriters. I own a 1920s, fully functional machine that's one of my only prized possessions.

In other news, this is the first piece I have made for my line of trinkets, babbles, lotions, and potions! It was inspired by the fall, naturally. I will be continuing with creating more until there are enough to me to comfortably open up my Etsy shop. If there are any requests in the meantime for custom orders- feel free to contact me. 

Here is my plan for the products I will be offering:

- Handmade, organic, paraben-free lotions with essential oils, aloe, vitamin E, and various other modifications, depending on your skin type/disposition.

- Hair accessories. Ranging from cute and whimsy edging over to darker and a touch more morbid.

- Jewelry. Pieces of copper and silver wire twisted into random shapes with found objects, beads, etc hanging from them.

- Prints of some of my photos. Just to see what happens.

Taking up Knitting!

In the spirit of feeling the craft bug biting I have signed up for a knitting class this afternoon. The venue looks adorable. It's called, Stitch Cafe and according to their website they have a courtyard/garden like set up in the back where people can hang out and knit. There are also open knitting circle times for people in the community to cruise by. It looks like a little cottage. I am so excited and feel whimsical up the wazoo. By the end of this class I will know how to make a scarf. They offer other classes though that teach you how to follow patterns, make hats, etc. If I end up getting hooked I may have to continue. 

The idea of guerilla knitting sounds appealing. Installing random knit installations in public that make people wonder, "Why they hell would someone make a cozy for the stoplight?!" Sounds like it could be fun and random.
